After rubbing and scrunching the fresh indigo leaves into our silk fabric we rinsed it in buckets of water to reveal the beautiful teal result. The best time to harvest indigo is when it just starts to flower. We are working with Persicaria Tinctoria, also known as Japanese Indigo or Dyer’s Knotweed.  After using the salt rub method with fresh leaves, our group harvested the rest of the indigo to ferment for a few days for vat dyeing techniques.
