Floating (aka Taft Floats Floats)
In our final year, as a visual cultures research group, we will explore the idea of ‘floating’. What does it mean to float in between disciplines as a form of pedagogy as well as experimentation? Floating is about how we float in and out of spaces without being committed to disciplinary boundaries, leaving space for a particular kind of buoyancy. As a multidisciplinary collective working across A&S and DAAP, we also consider how floating towards each other allows us to rethink how pedagogy can remain reflective and experimental in relation to visual methods. Floating might also be about ‘staying afloat’ or ‘keeping each other afloat’. Considering the ongoing political climate and the attacks on collaboration and the collective, floating might be another way to consider relations and movement. Floating is also about the ephemeral: things that float by.
